Beginning Acting

Emily Ritger

Beginning Acting is an introduction designed to provide a foundation in the critical understanding and practical application of contemporary acting theories and techniques. Content will focus on stimulating full utilization of the actor's instrument (mind, body, voice, imagination, and emotion) and using exercises and improvisations to provide a practical approach to standard acting challenges.

In my beginning acting class, I explored the fundamentals of performance, including voice, movement, and character work. The class helped me build confidence, expressiveness, and a deeper understanding of the basics of acting.

Neo-Futurist Task Monologue

In my beginning acting class, I wrote and performed a Neo-Futurist-inspired task monologue, which challenged me to be honest, concise, and present in the moment. Creating my own piece pushed me to explore personal experiences and express them directly to the audience. Performing it was both nerve-wracking and rewarding, giving me a sense of accomplishment and a deeper understanding of vulnerability and immediacy in performance.
