Costume Practicum

This course is a practical application of the material studied in a variety of theatre classes, and provides hands on experience scenic or costume construction.
In my costume practicum class, I learned the basics of hand and machine sewing, focusing on fundamental techniques like stitching, seams, and fabric handling. I practiced these skills on several projects, not to pursue costume work, but to be able to troubleshoot and make quick fixes when needed. This class gave me practical, hands-on problem-solving skills I can apply in a variety of technical theatre situations.
Hand Sewing
In this project, I learned how to sew on buttons and practice a variety of hand stitches, developing basic hand-sewing techniques.
Tote Bag
In this project, I learned to sew a tote bag, practicing skills like measuring, cutting, stitching, and assembling fabric pieces. It helped me build a basic understanding of constructing a functional sewn item from start to finish.
Pajama Pants
In this project, I learned to sew pajama pants, focusing on techniques like reading patterns, sewing seams, and adding elastic waistbands. It gave me hands-on experience in creating wearable garments while practicing foundational sewing skills.
